Next Generation Local (NGL) evolved following a summit in July 2026.  The summit was attended by representatives of local government, economic development agencies, central government, Iwi and community. It came together to discuss how it might meaningfully support local government and the Economic Development Agencies that it in turn supports during this time of unprecedented, rapid change that is being driven by central government's desire to see greater 'efficiency, accountability, focus and fiscal restraint' in local government.  The attached paper below is a declaration that attendees have committed to following the summit.
